Custom Battery Cables was born out of a passion for doing things right.
It all started in the late 1970s when I needed battery cables for my own truck—a 1948 Willy’s CJ-2A—while enrolled in the Diesel and Heavy Equipment certificate program at Maricopa Technical Community College (now Gateway). When I couldn’t find quality cables, I built my own. Soon, I was making cables for heavy construction equipment while working as a mechanic from 1979 to 1985 for companies like Mountain Bell (Qwest/CenturyLink), Naumann-Clark (now Naumann-Hobbs), and Sunstate Equipment.
In 1985, I shifted gears and joined Intel Corporation as a technician in the Military Products Group while earning my degree in Electronics Engineering Technology at night. Over the next 29 years, I worked in roles ranging from circuit design engineer for desktop computer chips to failure analysis engineer for automotive anti-lock brake controllers, and test engineer for mobile phone chips.
In short: I know heavy-duty trucks, and I know electronics and electrical systems.
Since that first cable, I’ve continued making custom cables for friends, family, and my own vehicles—because store-bought cables never measured up. In all those years, I’ve never had to replace one due to corrosion or overheating. In fact, the cables on my 1948 Willy’s lasted 20 years before I replaced them just to add a battery disconnect switch.
Believing others wanted the same level of quality, I launched Custom Battery Cables in 2003 from a spare room in my home. Today, we still offer what we believe are the best battery cables for the price—anywhere.
